Process map – digital inclusion and service integration
What is the tool and what does it aim to do?
The process map is a tool to support organisations/services to consolidate the new digital inclusion support model to show how the model works in practice and what happens at each stage of the process. The process map should capture the key steps in the model from when someone is referred to/becomes aware of digital inclusion support through to the ‘end’ of the digital inclusion support. The map will also help to show how the digital inclusion model is integrated as part of the service within which it is embedded.
What you’ll need to be able to complete the tool / preparation required
The example service integration process map provided comes from the Connecting to Care project ‘Link Up’ – a partnership between Link Living and NHS Fife. The example shows the process map of the digital inclusion service model that was embedded as part of the digital psychological therapies service. You can print out the example or you can use an online whiteboard or PowerPoint to help inspire your version of a process map digitally.
How to use the tool
Creating a process map of your digital inclusion model is most appropriate once you have completed all the stages of the co-design process. Or if you have developed a model of digital inclusion support for your organisation/service and the model has been tested and implemented. The main point is that your model is clear and that there are unlikely to be any significant changes. You can use the example provided to help you think through what is most useful to capture across the process and how to map your digital inclusion support model to show how it works in practice as an integrated part of a service.
Reflect on what stages the example process map has captured and the level of detail provided at each stage. Use a large sheet of paper or an online whiteboard or PowerPoint slide to create your own version of the process map.
Tips for using the tool
The example process map will help you reflect on your own digital inclusion model and think about how you can map this out as a process to communicate how the model works as part of the service.
